Summary

Safety is the HR function where the cost of failure is a person, not a metric — which is exactly why the analytics discipline has to be strongest here. This lecture applies HR Synapse to occupational health and safety, drawn from Volume 7 — Optimized Organization. The material walks through how a serious BI programme handles near-miss reporting (the leading indicator most organisations underuse), safety-exposure modelling that connects shift schedules and workload to incident rates, and the intervention loop that closes the gap between predicting risk and reducing it. The talk names the specific data quality issues that break most safety analytics — under-reporting, category drift, the incentive structures that keep bad news out of the dataset — and shows what a working programme does about them. It is aimed at heads of EHS, safety directors, and the CHROs who own the function, with material that applies as much in manufacturing as in healthcare, transport, and heavy industry.
